Celebrating the Dog Days of Summer with The Ziggy Band

We welcomed one of our favorite bands back to Tarrytowne Estates. 
They had the room rocking and rolling. 
Refreshments were sponsored by Health Solutions Health Care. 

They played some great songs from the 50's and 60's. 
The residents were dancing and having a great time.

The Benefits of Tai Chi and a demostration by Master Charles Morris

Tai Chi Master- Charles Morris presented a
talk about the benefits of Tai Chi for Older Adults.

He demonstrated some of the basic moves that will help
Older Adults overcome some basic medical issues.

Recycling comes to Tarrytowne Estates

Troy Van Dyke introduced the new
Recycling Program to the residents at Tarrytowne Estates. 
We are starting with paper and will eventually add glass, plastic and cans.

Cooling off with Ice Cream

 
Residents were enjoying sundae and
floats at our monthly Ice Cream Social. 
We enjoy music, fellowship and even some trivia.

Healthy Feet in Older Adults

 
 We had a great turn out for the "Healthy Feet"
presentation at Tarrytowne Estates. 
 
Dr. Jennifer Galloway, our community podiatrist, discussed healthy feet for older adults. 
The residents asked many questions, which impressed Dr. Galloway.

Better Sleep for Older Adults

 
Raul, a RN with Health Solutions Health Care discussed
 sleep issues with the residents here at Tarrytowne Estates.

The residents that attended were very interested and asked questions. 
Raul was able to provide sleeping tips and suggestions,
giving the residents different ideas on getting better rest at nighttime.

Fitness Center Orientation

Mildred and Jim were learning how to use the fitness machines.

Relaxing and Reading in the Sun!

Dante was sitting out by the pond watching the fish and turtles one morning. 
There was a brief cooling spell here in Texas and he wanted to relax in the sun. 
 He was also enjoying his book!

Tic Tac Toe Toss Challenge

The residents at Tarrytowne Estates tried a new
physical game this past week - Tic Tac Toe Toss.
 
Mary Lou is perfecting her technique.

Beat the Heat with Bill Parish

Bill Parish stopped by this past Friday to entertain the residents. 
He sang some country western, big band and standards.

Residents showed up to see Bill Parish,
a new entertainer to Tarrytowne Estates.

The crowd was singing along to most of the songs. 
Bill played all requests and added some jokes in between some of the songs.

Meditation with Laura

Laura, our Activity Director leads a meditation program several times a month. 
This program encourages relaxation and deep breathing exercises.

Jerry enjoys the program, it gives her a chance
to relax and let the stress leave her body.

Water Aerobics at Tarrytowne Estates

Laura Schaefer-Sac, our Activity Director leads a
Water Aerobics class twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays. 
The residents have a great time together
and get great exercise benefits from the class.

Walgreens Health Information Table - Wellness Event

Walgreens and Sunshine Retirement Living
has partnered to provide health presentations,
flu shots and screening to the residents and staff at Tarrytowne Estates.
 
Our local Walgreens Pharmacist and Community Representative
stopped by to talk about services and
 hand out goodies to the residents following their meal.

Residents were encouraged to visit with the Pharmacist
to discuss any medication concerns.

Residents were reminded that the Pharmacy delivers to
Tarrytowne Estates several days a week,
 offering the service at no charge to the resident.

"Good Health and Wellness" for Tarrytowne Estates!
 

Give Back- School Supply Drive

 
We collected 2 boxes of School Supplies for
Harris County Public Schools, their annual "Stuff the School Bus" campaign.
 
Barbara Gates dropped in some supplies.

Jeanine and Elmer Goldsmith purchased items that
were pre-packaged for the campaign.

We added our items to the donation site at our local Kroger Store.

 
Thank you to all the residents and family members at Tarrytowne Estates
 who donated supplies or money to purchase supplies. 
We made a difference for many students in Harris County!

Cooling Off on a Hot Texas Afternoon

We enjoyed some ice cold refreshing watermelon on a hot Friday Afternoon. 
We shared stories and listened to some music. 
Bill Smith, our resident Choir Director, led the residents in some sing along songs.
 
 
Alice Harvey, a new resident, was introduced to the other residents. 
While visiting, she enjoyed several slices of watermelon.

Mildred Bremer brought along her hat to enjoy the watermelon.

The Arthritis Foundation - Presentation and Demostration

 

Lean Bean and Dr. Erica Roland-Fields came
 to our Friday Exercise Class to discuss different types of arthritis
and exercises that will help reduce the symptoms of arthritis.

Dr. Roland-Fields showed some cool down exercises for the group.

Wellness Events come to Tarrytowne Estates

 
Understanding the Affordable Health Care Act
 
Belinda with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas came to
Tarrytowne Estates to explain the upcoming
changes to the Affordable Health Care Act.

The residents were very interested and asked great questions. 
Belinda is planning on returning in October to discuss the final changes to the act
and help residents choose the best Medicare plan for them.
