Mystery Trip - Historical Tour of Richmond and Rosenberg, Texas

Due to the Texas heat, we were forced to change our Bayou Wildlife Park trip. 
Laura, our wonderful Activity Director decided on a last minute Mystery Trip. 
She took us on a historical fact and scenic outing through Richmond and Rosenberg, Texas.  She provided a guided tour of the famous places and interesting facts in Fort Bend County.
 
Here are some of the sites....

Old Fort Bend Jail, it now houses the Richmond Police Department.
 
Morton Cemetery where many prominent Texas founding family members are buried.

Moore House, one of the founding family homes in Richmond.

Cole Theater is being refurbished and will soon house the new Rosenberg Opry Company.
 
Some of the old store fronts in downtown Rosenberg.

We even stopped to check out the old Imperial Sugar Mill and Factory. 

Mr. O'Connor was enjoying his peach cobbler at the Cracker Barrel.

Margaret Knighton was trying out the Strawberry Shortcake.

Take Me Out To The Ballgame

We celebrated America's favorite pastime - Baseball!
 
We were honored to have 2 players from the Sugar Land Skeeters, a new minor league team.
They visited with the residents and signed autographs.
 
A big THANK YOU goes out to the Skeeters organization for their generous donation of game tickets, hats and other miscellaneous prizes to hand out to the residents.
 
 
Laura, our Activity Director passed out peanuts and cracker jacks.

Nell wore an Astros jersey.

Joan wore her New York Yankees shirt,
while Evelin wore a shirt from the Sugar Land Skeeters

Maria passed out sodas or lemonade.

In fielder - Michael Rockett (#11) and
pitcher - Gilbert De La Vara posed with the all the managers.

Joy won an autographed book by
former resident and Hall of Famer Monte Irvin.

Inez won tickets to see the Sugar Land Skeeters in action.

Jackie was thrilled with her autograph Skeeters card.

The players traveled around, signing autographs and talking with the residents.
 

 Keith, our Marketing Specialist, wore his Chicago Cubs shirt.
 
Residents enjoyed food that would be served
at the ballpark- chicken wings, onion rings and cheese sticks.

Their main entrée was hamburger, hotdog or grilled chicken sandwich.
For dessert, they enjoyed an ice cream bar.

Ice Cream Social

 
It's getting hot in Texas.....
Residents came out in a wave to get some ice cream sundaes and rootbeer floats.
We listened to Soda Fountain music.
 
The event was sponsored by Health Solutions Health Care Company,
one of our new parnters and sponsors here at Tarrytowne Estates.
 
Everyone pitched in to make sundaes and floats.
 
After the main serving, Jon and Jessica talked
about the services offered by Health Solutions.
 
Jon also informed the residents that they would be providing a
free Blood Pressure Clinics on Monadys at 1:45pm in the Library.
 
Lois and Maggie both had Banana Splits!
 
Bernice and Bill both had Hot Fudge Sundaes!
 
Jean Chandler, one of our newest residents,
enjoyed carmel and nuts on her sundae.



A BIG THANK YOU goes out to Health Solutions for making
some much needed doantions to the Activities Department.
 
Health Solutions sponsored new weights and
bands for the Exercise (Happy Bones) Group.

They provided the Activities Department with a
new cart to transport supplies around on property.




Tie-One-On Party

 
In honor of the men of Tarrytowne Estates,
we had a Tie-One-On Party!
 
Guests were asked to were ties and there was a tie tying contest.
 
The food for the event was sponsored by Dicount Med Pharmacy. 
It is a wonderful new service that we are offering to the residents.

Our entertainer was Betty Lynne, she sang patriotic songs and danced with the residents.
 
Doyle and Mildred Weiderhold came dressed for the event.

Resident vs. Staff Challenge - Crazy Hat Contest

For this month's challenge, we decided to create crazy hats, 
not only for fun, but to help us beat the heat!

Jean Chandler wore a beautiful daisy hat.

 Leola Wright came as a cowgirl.

 Our pastry chef , Elisabeth found a moose hat at her house.

Fred Berry became a surfer/hippie for the day.

 Don Pearson forgot that it was almost summer, 
he wore a knit cap on his cowboy hat.

 Katherine Sampson came as Yankee Doodle's girlfriend.

Harry Corn dug out the University of Texas hat.

Laura Schaefer-Sac, our Activity Director 
was being attacked by butterflies.

 Joe Lombardo, our manager, created a "Honey Do Hat".

With the Texas heat, Josie wore a tropical hat.

Bertha thought she was going to a garden party!

It was a tie for the winners....
Mildred Brim won for the residents, 
she created a hat that could detect signals from space!
And Kerry, our driver, created a beautiful hat from a basket, flags and ribbons.

Fun was had by all.  Thank you to everyone that participated in this month's challenge!
